Planting Day May 7, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ann @ Appalachian Appetites @ 1:03 pm

Well, we’ve met and planned, bought plants and seeds, and yesterday we finally planted!  The community garden is underway!  We had a great sunny evening to garden.  It was fun to talk and hang out…and plant! 🙂  We got our hands a bit dirty!  Here’s what we planted:

  • onions
  • potatoes
  • okra
  • eggplant
  • hot peppers
  • green peppers
  • beans
  • corn
  • pumpkins
  • watermelon
  • broccoli
  • lettuce
  • kale
  • tomatoes
  • cucumbers

We are taking turns during the week to water and tend the garden…As plants start to come up, I’ll let you know.  In the meantime, check out our awesome group below…Feel free to click on any of the pictures for a better look.

I’m off to D.C. this weekend for my sister’s graduation.  I’ll also get to celebrate Mother’s Day with my mom 🙂  So no posts this weekend…I’ll be back next week.  Have a great weekend!

That community garden is so awesome…where is it, exactly? I can’t believe stuff is going on so close to me and I’m so clueless!

Hey there – which garden are you working in? Just moved back to Asheville myself, after a year and a half on the west coast. I also worked in Africa, though in Malawi…
If you’re into organic gardening, we’ve got a mini urban homestead going in the neighborhood behind Mission Hospital. The house also serves as a basis for a non-profit, so folks are always welcome to stop by. And you could check out Freeskool Asheville – tons of permaculture, sustainability and practical skills shared during weekend workshops. Fliers are posted all around town.
    Enjoy D.C.!

  6. […] balls are peppy (I think it’s time for salad next week!) and my husband will go and water the community garden tomorrow.  Spring is definitely here!  Have a great weekend! 0.000000 0.000000   […]
